Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What areas do you serve?
We provide deer management services throughout Nassau County and Suffolk County on Long Island, including towns such as Huntington, Smithtown, Brookhaven, Islip, Babylon, Oyster Bay, Hempstead, North Hempstead, Glen Cove, Long Beach, and the East End communities.

Is your deer management program really free?
Yes, 100% free for qualifying homeowners. There is no cost to you for the consultation, permit assistance, or deer removal services.

How do you remove the deer?

We use professional archery hunting (bow and arrow) performed by experienced, licensed archers. This method is quiet, safe, and highly effective in suburban settings—no firearms are used, so there is no noise to disturb neighbors.

Safety & Discretion

Is it safe to have hunters on my property?
Absolutely. Our team consists of licensed, insured professionals who follow strict safety protocols. Hunters use elevated tree stands, hunt only with your permission and clear guidelines, and prioritize safety for people, pets, and property.
Will my neighbors notice anything?
Our operations are designed to be discreet. We work during optimal times, leave no trace, and use plastic sleds for quiet removal. Most neighbors never know we’ve been there.

What about cleanup?
We handle everything. The site is left clean, and deer are removed promptly and respectfully.

Permits & Legal

Do I need a permit?
In most cases, yes—a New York State DEC Deer Damage Permit (also called a Nuisance Permit) is required for deer removal outside regular hunting season. We guide you through the simple application process and often handle the paperwork on your behalf.

How long does it take to get a permit?
Permit approval typically takes a few weeks, but we can start the process immediately after your consultation.

Effectiveness & Approach

Why focus on removing female deer (does)?
Removing antlerless deer is the most effective long-term strategy. A single doe can produce 2–3 fawns per year, and left unchecked, populations double quickly. Targeting does prevents future overpopulation.

What happens to the deer after removal?
Venison is field dressed professionally, donated to local food pantries, donated to animals in need that cannot eat traditional pet food or hunger relief programs through organizations like Hunters Helping the Hungry. Nothing goes to waste.

How many deer can you remove from my property?
It depends on the size of your property, the local deer population, and permit allowances. We work with you to achieve meaningful, sustainable reduction.

Do you offer year-round service?
Yes. With proper permits, we operate year-round to provide consistent management.

Why Choose Long Island Wildlife Control Over an Individual Hunter?
While some homeowners consider finding their own bowhunter through social media, friends, or hunting forums, partnering with Long Island Wildlife Control provides a far more professional, reliable, and hassle-free experience. Here's why our organized program stands out:

- Single Trusted Point of Contact
You deal directly with Frank Kentoffio, a New York State DEC-licensed Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator. No coordinating with multiple strangers or chasing down unreliable individuals—we handle all scheduling and communication.

- Vetted, Experienced Team
Our archers are carefully selected, skilled professionals with proven suburban archery experience. We maintain consistent standards for safety, discretion, and effectiveness—something you can't guarantee with random hunters.

- Fully Licensed & Insured
As a licensed operator, we carry full insurance and operate under strict DEC guidelines. This adds accountability and protection that most individual hunters do not provide.

- Strategic, Long-Term Management
We prioritize removing antlerless deer for sustainable population control and follow up as needed on your property. Many regular hunters focus only on bucks or short-term harvests, which does little to solve overpopulation.

- Maximum Discretion & Minimal Disruption
Our team uses proven low-impact methods (elevated stands, quiet removal with plastic sleds) designed specifically for residential neighborhoods. We’ve refined this process over years—reducing the risk of neighbor complaints or visible activity.

- Proven Track Record
We’ve successfully helped numerous Long Island homeowners restore their yards and reduce deer-related issues. You get an established program, not an untested arrangement.
